Urban Combat Skateboard

Wed May 3, 2006, 8:54 AM
The Department of Defense is always good for a laugh

While the story is a little old, I just ran across it recently. Gotta love FARK.

Tomorrow's Soldier
LCPL Chad Codwell, from Baltimore, Maryland, with Charlie Company 1st Battalion 5th Marines, carries an experimental urban combat skateboard which is being used for maneuvering inside buildings in order to detect tripwires and sniper fire. This mission is in direct support of Urban Warrior '99.

Of course, Im working on a piece that really gives you an idea of what an Urban Combat Skateboard can do. Here is the scrap of its current state.

Tutorials take a long time to do

Hope it was worth the trouble

Well, trying to explain to my coworkers why I was writing a tutorial on "How to Create a Wound" in Photoshop was interesting. If they didn't know I was bizzare before, they certainly have figured it out now.

If I don't suck too bad, I may even try my hand at another soon.

Which one is better

Hell, I can't pick

So Ive done this piece twice now and I still don't know if either one is worth a damn.

What do you think?

My first digital painting-2

Entry 4 in a series

More hair. Edited the eyes. But I fear the I f**ked up one of the eyes. Its gotten fuzzy because I keep goofing with it. Decided not to go with the "hair" brushes in Photoshop. Been doing all her hair the hard ... I mean fun ... way. her left shoulder (image right) just kinda sucks at the moment. Oh well.
I'm moving on to the guy. Change of pace might help.

Got maybe half the hair done today. I think Ive got tennis elbow from all the wide strokes with the tablet. I can see why people draw hair one strand at a time. Its very good practice to see how to build up tone. On the other hand, I see why other people choose "hair brushes". I think eventually I'll end up with a mix of the two.

That's it for today I think. I like keeping the scraps. Makes me feel a bit better at the end of the day. I'm very unhappy with her eyebrows and the contrast over all. But I think I will wait until the end to work with contrast.

Also, since I have my fair share of them I feel I can say this with some authority:
FRECKLES SUCK! Wow I'm pissed about the way they are turning out. But I hope, after many days of layering them on, that they will look a little more natural.

Sparked by a wonderful piece by *shley77, I'm trying my hand at digital painting.

I rarely keep up with how long my projects take. I think that may be why I start so many pieces and never finish them. Will be interesting to see if this helps.

I'll be posting a scraps with journal entry to mark my progress. Ive posted the original photo, first sketch and the beginnings of a face.
